Although the name "fire opal" best describes the deep reddish-orange color of this gem material, the body color can range from light golden yellows to deep reddish-oranges. Some fire opal may display irridescent color (Called "play of color") which changes with angle of observation. The above gem does not display irridescence, but does display beautiful color and clarity. Opal is relatively soft and is best used in jewelry settings that protect it from shock and abrasion.
