"Specking" for Sunstone on the Rockhound Reserve Near Plush, Oregon

grndsun

Here is an image of a small portion of the ground in the "rockhound preserve." As you can see, there isn't much vegetation to hide the rocks and gems. There are at least 20 or 30 "small" (1 to 5 carats each) fragments of sunstone in this picture. Can you "speck" them? (Click here for some help). This ground and photograph were not "doctored" in any way. This is exactly how this rich region of the gem field was found when visited in 1995. Most of the sunstone on the surface is light yellow in color, but occasional pieces with schiller can be found. Finding the prime reddish-orange material requires major excavactions.
