Searching for Peridot at Potrillo Maar on the New Mexico/Mexico Border

It's the spring of 2005. I've spent hours hiking around the area looking for olivine nodules. I've cracked a couple hundred nodules (like the one in the image above left) with very limited success. That's Mexico just on the other side of that rickety little fence (above right) and those cones a mile to the south are bassalt outflows. I see olivine nodules on the other side of the fence. What the heck, let's go to Mexico!
