A Close-up of the Olivine-Rich Zone in the Vesicular Basalt. |
||||||
Portions of the olivine-rich zone of the basalt consist of up to fifty percent peridot. The peridot masses are irregular in shape and consist of tiny grains of shattered peridot. Well over ninety percent of the peridot is so small in size that it is of no value as gem material. Occasionally, small sections of the peridot masses are less shattered and yield fragments large enough to facet. If you are a mineral collector you might like to take a look at our olivine specimens. |
