Azurite is a deep blue-colored copper mineral (hydrated copper carbonate) that is produced by the weathering of copper ore deposits. Sometimes the azurite crystals will aggregate and form an unusual ball shape like that seen above. I purchased this specimen at one of the Tucson mineral shows held several years ago. Sorry, I don't know much about the origin of the specimen, other than to tell you that it came from the Hannover Tunnel No. 2 in Grant County New Mexico. (#M489, $5.00 Sold)
