The Brushy Mountain, aka Mule Creek, quartz crystal area is located on the Arizona-New Mexico border in Grant County, New Mexico. The quartz crystals formed in cavities in a rhyolite rock. Most of the crystals are small (1-8 cm on average), and rather heavily included, but they are typically a light amethystine color and display unusual crystal shapes. Many of the crystals are scepters with skeletal habit. The above specimens are some of the more unusual quartz crystals to be found anywhere. Each is a very light amethyst color and two of the three have more or less well-developed scepter growth on one end. Also unusual is the uncommon length to width sizes of these doubly terminated crystals. Each crystal has some minor growth contact points towards the middle, but the terminations are pristine. All three crystals were recovered from the same small pocket. I have used some sticky tack to temporarily mount each crystal on the top of a plastic stand for photography. These specimens are small, but quite unusual. They would look great as the centerpiece of pendants, or just displayed as is. (#m495: the suite of 3 crystals, is priced at $15.00 Sold) If you would like to view a Google Earth Tour of this collecting locale you may wish to check out this web page. |
