Shown above is a specimen of high grade ore containing gold in quartz. These fragments, all part of a single piece of high-grade ore, are from the collection of Herb Way. Herb was a mining engineer spending his life working for a variety of companies (Pacific Tin, Yuba Mining Co., Hannah Mining Co.) in support of their large scale dredging and exploration efforts. Although I have no specific information on the locale from which Herb collected this specimen, I would guess it came from a Nevada location. The gold shows as eye-visible particles scattered throughout all the larger fragments and many of the smaller fragments. The largest fragment measures 1.75 inches in length. A close-up of one of the nicer pieces is shown in this enlargement. (#M510, $150.00)
